You may find that you will often solve all but one ring, and because of the rotation relationship, you cant rotate that last ring without disrupting the others.

This animation shows how you could work the solution from the opposite end, by offsetting the last ring by one rotation.

   
       
 

Here we see that by rotating the 4th ring, the 5th ring rotates by
one 90 degree rotation.
Then, rotating the 5th ring back to alignment, offsets the puzzle
by one rotation. The puzzle can now be solved in three more moves.


This method is a general concept, and should be applied differently
to each puzzle.
Some puzzles are better solved from the inside out, while others from the outside in.
